On July 8, 2022, Kota Ibushi took to twitter and posted the following:
Gerontocracy: A gerontocracy is a form of oligarchical rule in which an entity is ruled by leaders who are significantly older than most of the adult population. In many political structures, power within the ruling class accumulates with age, making the oldest the holders of the most power.
Ibushi understands that sometimes there is a need to step aside. He doesn’t want to be an old man standing in the way of the young and bright future stars of the wrestling business, especially in Japan. Ibushi considers making a new place for the young people to shine. What will he do next?
Fan Q&A recap:
When asked about his shoulder injury: Getting worse. Won’t move at all. Ibushi notes that he probably overdid it for many years. Note: Ibushi hasn’t had surgery to help repair the shoulder and help recovery time. Ibushi does let the fan know that he’s been doing the recommended rehab given by doctors and trainers. Even with 8 months of rehab, Ibushi can’t do a single push-up.
Ibushi will be creating video footage that’ll be live and edited for fans to hear his voice again.
Ibushi teases that the next thing he creates to help young people shine could be a team, a promotion, an organization. He’s not sure what it will be, but believes it’ll succeed and further pro wrestling.
Ibushi doesn’t know about retirement, but this development is a new kind of sports entertainment and wrestling. It’s also unclear what Ibushi means by stepping aside. When a fan questioned this, Ibushi answered with: Yeah, I guess.
Ibushi wants to wrestle Shibata, but he’s not qualified to step into a New Japan ring, so he’ll wrestle Shibata anywhere without footage. Even if he’s injured, he’s going to do it under a contract where he’s not obligated to do so. Ibushi wants a no holds barred match with Shibata.
Ibushi will switch focus to help his mother.
Ibushi explains to a fan that it isn’t easy to leave NJPW. If it was easy, Ibushi would have left. Contracts are yearly binding. Ibushi does have lawyers involved in this current situation. It’s not easy for him to leave.
Ibushi wants to do a live broadcast where it can’t be edited so he can speak on the situation.
