I do not get a commission or paid if you happen to sign up to the masterclass. Although it was mentioned — slyly under the breath — that if we invite people, we’ll get a consolation prize of a $100. Not sure if that’s still the case. Either way, let them know Marie Shadows sent you. That $100 dollars would have been beneficial for me to pay just 1 month my locked-in price of $49 so I can continue to give you outstanding and informational recap commentary notes review of the session with added think pieces about content creation because after all, Tape Study Series is all about learning things outside the fundamentals of wrestling such as social media and content creation.
My renewal date is approaching and if you love to support me being in the class with the benefit of reading my notes plus commentary and exploring ideas in content creation, in interviewing, in different perspectives, and more, please —> click here. ←
I know it seems like I’m asking for a lot, but I truly believe that this would be beneficial for all of us. Those that donate to the price listed (I’m covering those PayPal fees) will get a paid comp because the rest of the notes and lessons will be behind the paywall. If you get a yearly subscription, that would be awesome.
If none of these options help you, there’s always merch and Amazon but payouts take longer, and you’ll have to buy in bulk in order to help me reach the $49+ mark to cover fees. You can still purchase items from the merch store and Amazon regardless of the masterclass.
Now I know this disclaimer is the boring housekeeping agenda you don’t like, and it might turn some away, but these are the facts and the situation. All I can do is ask and see what happens.
Want to be a full time creator?
Do you agree that everyone starts at zero when they begin their content creation journey?
If so, why do want to be a full-time creator? What is driving you? What is your why?
I don’t ask these questions to discourage you at all from becoming a full-time content creator.
Everyone starts at zero. Even me.
Sometimes a person can be half time content creator while still loving their job. However, if you’ve completely worked out in your mind how to navigate life after quitting your job to be bet on yourself and purse this full time, then I’ll give you all the luck in the world and we can start discussing the lessons and ideas from the zoom call.
Content creation as we know it is difficult. You might think someone is ahead of you in this game of life is because of what someone posts on social media but that’s so far from the truth because we know that, that someone paid for their views, paid for their inflated follower counts, and more without doing the work.
Content creation is a marathon and not sprint, much like professional wrestling. Just because you graduated from the school or dojo and is now getting bookings, that doesn’t mean you’ve won or you’re a veteran now because you’ll always be training. It’s the same mindset for content creation. You’ll always be learning something new. You’ll always be chasing the algorithm, the friends you make along the way, the money, the numbers.
Lesson #1 - Mindset
A specific mindset is what empowers 9 out of 10 content creators to achieve success. They believe that they can make money and invest in themselves with less than $50,000. Now, this isn’t to scare you. I don’t even have that much or close to it or something sustainable.
I risked a dollar ($1) I don’t have to be in this masterclass and create a recap notes commentary articles to brainstorm and workshop the ideas, lessons, and takeaways with you.
There are simple ways to invest in yourself and your content.
Stick to a morning routine on your days on and off.
Write down your thoughts and sort them into priority and order.
Learn new skills.
These are the softball investments into yourself without money. The next article will be a deep dive of softball and advance investments. The more you invest in yourself — money or not — the better results you’ll gain for yourself.
Everyone likes results. That’s the measurement to make sure we’re on the right track.
But results aren’t just about how many followers you can pull, how many listens you can pull., how much money you can bring in — regardless of everyone needing money — sometimes results can be as simple as self-care, recharging, planning content, talking and networking in the background or at events with industry leaders.
The in between steps to point A and B are usually what people on social media doesn’t see and those are the best tidbits in the journey to accomplishing your dreams.
For example: The in between steps that took me to WWE. The in between steps that took to become a main stay as media press for MLW (Major League Wrestling). The in between steps that took me to be a commentator for Goddesses of War Wrestling when originally, I was their official podcaster at the rebrand launch. The in between steps that got me to publish on Amazon.
After believing in yourself and investing in yourself, there are three things to think about when having a different mindset to achieve all that you want to achieve.
Hobby —> Business
Longterm vs short term
Competiton to collaboration
Deep dive happening in the next article.
How would you define these three mindsets for your content?
What’s your biggest challenge?
What’s your least challenge?
What are your limiting factors?
Have you written down your roses and thorns — as Travis Chappel explains to us — what are your blessings and problems?
As content creators we often get caught up in the throes of social media. We often see others pose in front of cool things, show off “expensive” things for the photo op or the video, and more.
Social media is a lie.
It’s a damn good lie to keep us glued to it and we often allow that voice in the back of our minds to creep up and talk shit to us. We start comparing our lives to the lives of social media influences who understand how to play the clout game. And we shouldn’t do that.
Comparison to someone who fakes it or has to run to social media the moment they have a wonderful stream with all these donations to tell the world about it to get others visit on the next session or is always on vacation when that person always says they’re broke — is the thief of JOY, especially YOUR JOY. Don’t compare yourself to others.
Easier said than done. I’ve been there. I’ve done it. I’ll admit it.
But lately, I’m invigorated by young content creators willing to learn and grow and understand that staying focused and adapting in the content creation game that fluctuates and changes on a dime’s notice can truly mean you are ready for anything and will be successful.
Those that chase the numbers and show off the numbers and say in every post they are humbled or grateful — how many of them know your name?
How many of those influences or content creators know your name rather than what number follow you’ve become?
So, the next time you think about comparing yourself to others or to your idol or mentor of a content creator, don’t.
You’re building a solid rock foundation. They are building a house of cards.
