Top 3 Inevitable Matches for BOSJ 29 Block A
Marie Shadows gives you the updated on the scores and matches to watch!
Ace Austin vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru
Alex Zayne vs SHO
Hiromu vs Akira Francesco
Best of the Super Jrs 29 Block A night 2 started on May 18, 2022. We now have different matchups for this night. Above are my top 3 inevitable matches.
Taguchi vs Taiji Ishimori gets an honorable mention. It was a good match until we saw all of Taguchi’s ass. I’m not kidding.
Let’s jump into these matches!
✨Clark Connors vs YOH✨
Block A for BOSJ was in Sendai, Japan. Sendai is YOH’s hometown. YOH still came out with his hoodie boi gimmick he’s been sporting ever since Roppongi 3K broke up. He wears oversized hoodies that your girlfriend would steal.
Clark Connors is my pick to win Block A for BOSJ. He got the in-ring skills. He got the promo skills. But I’m a little worried that he won’t get 2 points anytime soon. He lost to Ace Austin during night 1. That was a close call, even for me to pick a winner. I do want to see more Ace Austin vs Clark Connors in the future. Let’s ship Clark Connors to Impact Wrestling for this feud. However, I understand why they gave the YOH the victory over Connors but I’m still waiting for the night that Connors gets some points. He’s a NJPW native and went through the whole Dojo System and graduated.
The match started with basic wrestling then moving into chops and kicks by YOH after a drop toehold. YOH had countered Clark’s spear. Clark Connors did a lot of powerful offense against YOH in this match. For being in a Best of the Super Jrs, there was nothing light about this match. Quickness, yes. Clark Connors better be in the G1 Climax 32 this year because of his powerful offense. Despite all the powerful attacks YOH absorbed, YOH still manages to kick out at two. YOH then catches Clark Connors on the second rope turnbuckle and grabs Clark’s leg to do a dragon screw.
Clark manages to recover to do a spear to YOH but it wasn’t enough for a cover. YOH is relentless in this match and so is Clark. YOH hooks on a leg lock on Clark. Clark doesn’t submit. YOH transitions in to giving Clark a German Suplex with a bridge pin combination. Clark refuses to lose. YOH has waist control but Clark does a head but to break YOH’s grip. Clark does a wonderful powerslam to YOH and sometime after does the DMV to YOH. YOH kicks out. YOH does 2 superkicks and ends the match with Direct Drive to pick up the victory.
The reason why this match didn’t make my top 3 was because it was a YOH wrestling-style match. There was nothing more to it. A plain wrestling match. I know that the wrestlers shouldn’t be going 1,000% like Alex Zayne but I need something within these matches that not only make it feel like wrestling but get me invested into the motivation, frustrations — basically the emotional side of wrestling. Their bodies are hurting, so why not slow down and tell that story a bit. Insert a little doubt. Insert a little two steps ahead yet trips up on something simple. Wrestling is great. I love wrestling matches. I love very good technically sound wrestling matches. But I needed something more. Clark Connors has all the personality in the world to get me invested in what he does. YOH doesn’t and that’s where his matches, for me, falls flat.
YOH = 2 points | Clark Connors = 0 points
✨Ace Austin vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru✨
Man…Ace Austin is truly the wild card in this tournament. And where was this Yoshinobu Kanemaru when he was fighting Alex Zayne? I’m really glad that Ace Austin is in Best of the Super Jrs 29.
Yoshinobu tries to jump attack Ace Austin before the bell rings, before Ace Austin has a chance to take off his ring gear. However, Ace is such a professional that he turns the tables on Yoshinobu. However, there is a moment where Yoshinobu gets the advantage over Ace Austin, but Ace comes back with a dropkick to Yoshinobu. A thrust kick is caught then planted face first onto the apron.
Yoshinobu controls the match with a headlock on Ace Austin. But Ace manages to slip out, and does a drop kick to Yoshinobu, landing in some offense. Then as Ace Austin has Yoshinobu’s arm isolated, as seen in the picture above, Ace uses his calling card to slice the webbing of Yoshinobu’s fingers.
Yoshinbou manages to create some space as he does a back Suplex to Ace Austin.
Moonsault press to Yoshinobu then The FOLD by Ace Austin. Ace Austin picks up the victory. A nice match all together.
Ace Austin = 2 points | Yoshinobu = 0 points
✨SHO vs Alex Zayne✨
This was a fun match. Who knew I needed to see Alex Zayne vs SHO? SHO is representing House of Torture and Bullet Club.
Alex Zayne goes from 0 to 1,000 during all his matches for Best of the Super Jrs. 29. It’s almost as if: Go big or go home.
Alex Zayne begins with some brutal offense on SHO. A back breaker to SHO on the apron, the hardest part of the ring. Then Alex does a rebound hurricanrana to SHO on the floor. Twisting corkscrew senton on SHO.
It gets to a point where SHO attacks a young lion to distracts Alex. Alex goes and checks on the young lion and this allows SHO to blind side attack Alex with a chair. SHO now controls the match and slows down the momentum. Alex gets in some offense and hits SHO with a powerful lariat. Alex does this insane Moonsault just using the steel that holds up the turnbuckles and lands on SHO.
After some more fighting we get another famous House of Torture distraction with Dick Togo. However, Alex pushes SHO into Dick Togo and loses the wrench. High Knee by Alex but SHO recovers and goes for a cross arm breaker. Alex squirms his way to the rope causing a rope break. Alex is then able to do Taco Driver to SHO and pick up the victory.
I still can’t believe that Alex Zayne has a win over a House of Torture and Bullet Club member being SHO. I need this anime rival storyline where it’s SHO vs Alex Zayne again. I think it’ll be great content. Also, the fans in Sendai hate SHO.
Alex Zayne = 2 points | SHO = 0 points
✨Taguchi vs Taiji Ishimori✨
This match was going to make my list for top 3…until Taguchi literally showed his bare ass to try and one-up Taiji Ishimori, our IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion. Taguchi stated during the press conference that he would be a serious competitor. However, that didn’t last long. He goes for a hip attack in this match only for Taiji to move out the way and Taguchi has a rough a landing.
Taiji ends up removing the corner turnbuckle padding and throws Taguchi shoulder first into it. Then Taiji has wrist controls and whips Taguchi shoulder first down into the canvas, doing more damage. We then get a hip attack transitioned into an ankle lock by Taguchi. Taiji makes his way to the ropes for a rope break.
There was a lot of countering of moves until we finally saw the desperation — or at least the one-step ahead trick — for Taguchi to completely lower his tights and underware exposing his bare ass to all of us including Taiji. Taiji smartly and quickly rolled through when Taguchi was going to sit on him. Taiji pinned Taguchi.
What an ass show!
Taiji Ishimori = 2 points | Taguchi = 0 points
✨Hiromu vs Akira Francesco✨
These two wrestled like The Flash that I had to rewind to the start of the match just to keep up with note taking for their match. I write all my notes by hand in a notebook. I don’t type them up. I write faster by hand but I wasn’t quick enough to catch all they were doing.
Hirmou is synonymous with Best of the Super Jrs and Super Jrs in general. He’s the guy that has carried the division and other things too. He’s super talented.
Akira Francesco is new to the NJPW roster. He was previously in All Japan Pro Wrestling and their Jr Champion. Akira is a good fit for the United Empire as a Jr. He’s fast and innovative. I’m impressed with him.
There is a dropdown from Akira, but the veteran Hiromu grabs Akira’s arm and drags him into a head scissors. I love the little things.
We get a cool shotgun dropkick on the edge of the ring. Hiromu goes for that pop-up powerbomb on Akira. Akira kicks out at 2. A wheel barrel Supelx. Akira does a front face buster to Hirmou on the canvas.
Speed fire to Hiromu. Hiromu kicks out.
Timebomb 2 to Akira and Hiromu wins.
Hiromu = 2 points | Akira Francesco = 0 points
