New Years Eve Squared Circle Podcast 2024 Review
A year in review and cheers to a brand-new year starting tomorrow.
Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!
Tomorrow, we get to start with a blank canvas. Honestly, you’re allowed to start fresh anytime, but there’s something about a new year that feels extra motivating. If you’ve ever thought you couldn’t, let me remind you—you can. We all grow. We all change. Maybe for the better, and if for the worst, it’s never too late to pull yourself back up and make things happen. Cliché? Yeah. But it’s true.
Now, writing these year-end wrap-ups is always tricky for me. All I want to do right now is photo dump my Spotify Wrapped and celebrate my Twitter Wrapped metrics—shoutout to the user who created that AI model, by the way. It’s such a cool way to look back at the year.
Anyway, here’s my version of a year-end wrap-up—random highlights of what I remember best from 2024:
I interviewed Devon Dudley.
I met Eric Bischoff.
I worked with MLW and got promoted from Media Press to Talent Helper (still figuring out what that means exactly, but hey, progress!).
I sold copies of my Wrestling Planner.
I contributed to an anthology of wrestling stories for a comic by PJ Curling—check out his Kickstarter if you haven’t already.
Let’s talk metrics.
Every year, the Squared Circle Podcast hits new milestones, and 2024 was no exception. It’s all about upward momentum—even if I don’t focus on imaginary goals. I’m not someone who obsesses over small-picture goals, like cranking out X number of podcast episodes for the year. For me, it’s always been about quality over quantity.
If you’re doing review shows, the conversations can vary, but if you’re chasing interviews just to hit a “quota,” they’ll all start blending together. How can a new listener—or even a returning one—tell if they’ve heard that episode before? Depth over surface-level content.
Numbers will always be there. Somewhere in the world, someone is discovering your content, sharing it, or leaving a comment. That organic growth matters more to me than anything else.
Spotify for Podcasters
I love Spotify, but let’s be real—it’s tough being a very small creator on the platform. Mainly monetization. Still, I’m thankful for the tools they’ve introduced, like comments and polls. If you’re a Spotify listener and following the channel, don’t forget to participate. For example, the newest episode, Supporting NJPW’s Future: WWE, NJPW, and Hard Truths, has a poll waiting for your vote.
For this year, here are the photos of growth.
Thank you for these numbers and support over on Spotify.
Twitter Wrapped 2024
This is going to be fun.
Let’s look to 2025.
Dear 2025,
As we stand on the threshold of a new chapter, I’m both excited and nervous to step into this journey. The online world can be harsh, but my love for helping wrestlers, fans, and staff in the wrestling industry keeps me grounded. I’ve always believed in doing things honestly and authentically, and that won’t change. What will change, though, is the scope of what I’m setting out to achieve.
Here’s what I know so far:
Make Tape Study Chatter a Thing. Breaking down wrestling matches with expert analysis has always been my passion, and I’m ready to give this project the time and energy it deserves.
Inside The Locker Room, Monthly. A platform where wrestlers share advice for peers, fans, and promoters—think of it as a hybrid between an advice column and a shared knowledge hub.
1-on-1 Consultations for Wrestlers. Offering personal guidance (at an affordable rate) to help wrestlers behind the scenes because I believe in their growth and success as much as my own.
Collaborate More. Practice not being a lone wolf. Host more panels on Discord, Twitter Spaces, live on YouTube, and Substack Live. Speaking of Substack Live—readers will need the app for access, but they’ll always get a ping when I go live.
Grow on YouTube. Getting into the YouTube Partner Program is a big goal. We currently stand at 654 subscribers and 2,549 public watch time hours out of 3,000 public watch time hours. Super Chats, memberships, and creating a legacy membership tier at $0.99 for day-one supporters are all on the horizon.
Prioritize Health and Creativity. Carving out time to work out and stay healthy is non-negotiable. On top of that, I want to dive into writing, editing, and publishing a cyberpunk sci-fi book and a wrestling fiction novel.
Of course, everything is subject to change—life loves to throw curveballs—but this is the foundation I’m building.
This is my full-time job, and creating makes me genuinely happy. I’m committed to making the most of this opportunity, fulfilling these content ideas and more, and growing alongside the incredible community that supports me on Substack and beyond.
I hope to travel to more wrestling events, offering my help and services wherever I can. Through your continued support, I’ll keep learning, spreading my wings, and giving back to the industry I love so much.
Here’s to a new year of growth, collaboration, and making dreams a reality.
Let’s make 2025 unforgettable!
