In the latest episode of Squared Circle Podcast, I dive into what’s really going on with New Japan Pro Wrestling right now. We kick things off talking about the March 14, 2025 New Japan Cup and highlight some of the big names, like Drilla Moloney, Shingo, and Jeff Cobb, but it doesn’t take long before we zoom out and talk about the bigger picture—the current state of New Japan’s partnership with AEW.

Let me tell you, the frustration from fans is palpable. AEW’s treatment of New Japan talent has been a huge talking point. From random matchups that don’t make sense to the lack of any real storytelling, it feels like AEW isn’t honoring NJPW’s rich history. The inability to craft meaningful, emotionally-driven storylines has really affected how fans are connecting with New Japan stars, and it’s making people question the long-term impact of this partnership.

But that’s not all. I also take a hard look at factions like the United Empire. Once a well-oiled machine, it now feels like the faction has lost its direction. With no clear leadership or purpose, it’s turned into a shadow of its former self, which is disappointing given the potential it had.

Through all of this, though, my passion for New Japan still burns strong. There’s so much untapped potential in guys like Jeff Cobb, who deserve a bigger push—especially as singles stars. He and others like him are so much more than tag team competitors, and it’s time for them to step into the spotlight. This isn’t just about match outcomes; it’s about how New Japan can regain its place at the top of the wrestling world by finding new ways to showcase its talent and strengthen its storytelling.

So if you're a fan of New Japan or just wrestling in general, this episode is a must-listen. It’s more than just match reviews—it’s an honest conversation about the future of one of wrestling's most legendary promotions.
